Twin Galaxies Announces New World Record In Epic Donkey Kong Rivalry
Posted by Motherboard on Wednesday, Feb 17, 2010
Few games get men callousing their hands to break records like Donkey Kong. And none of the Donkey Kong kings may be as driven as Steve Wiebe, who starred in the acclaimed 2007 documentary The King of Kong, and who last week recaptured his title as the Donkey Kong Junior World Record Holder, with a record breaking 1,190,400 points. (NB: Billy Mitchell still remains the world record holder for regular Donkey Kong.)
Playing judge in Kong court and nearly every other gaming competition is Twin Galaxies, the video arcade-turned-gaming epicenter and official hall of records for games from Frogger all the way up to Wii Fitness. Not long ago, Motherboard spoke with Twin Galaxies owner Walter Day, whose role as referee and scorekeeper to the world’s gamers is only a sideline. His main focus? Transcendental Meditation as taught by the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
