Diana Eng: Fashion Geek
Posted by Motherboard on Wednesday, Jan 27, 2010
After realizing that calculus and engineering weren’t exactly her style, Diana Eng decided to put her quantitative talents to work elsewhere: in the fashion industry. She’s now been on Project Runway, published her own book, helped found the hackerspace (and former Motherboard guests) NYC Resistor and is currently enjoying a residency at the Eyebeam Institute. After working on bra technology at Victoria’s Secret, Diana — who calls herself the Fashion Geek — is now working on a project called Fairytale Fashion Design Lab, an interactive, web-enabled effort to create a collection of magical clothing in real life, replete with blooming flowers, transforming shapes and changing colors.
In this installment of Motherboard, the “fashion geek” demonstrates how easily technology can be incorporated into fashion. Though fashion technology has for long remained confined to the level of craft, Eng’s looking forward to a future when big companies and tiny designers start integrating computers with couture.

I love the urchin idea but I want to see if the leather will fold as well as the paper. I don't see how you can have good leather that will bend that much.

I don't really know what I think about fashion and technology coming together like this. Then again, I like the classics.
