Rock Band Creator Eran Egozy's Secret: He Jams on the Clarinet
Posted by NOVAscienceNOW_Motherboard on Wednesday, Jan 20, 2010
Whaddya know? No, no really: what do you know? It turns out that Eran Egozy, the video game designer that gave a new generation of head-bangers a taste of what it’s like to actually shred riffs is a musical genius on the clarinet. Picking it up at 15, he never knew that playing an instrument was supposed to be a struggle, and kept it going throughout his time at MIT. And even though he’s the head of engineering at Harmonix — they made Rock Band and Guitar Hero — he still hits the pipe hard.
As he explains in this episode of the Secret Life of Scientists, Eran sneaks his clarinet to the lab every morning for an hour-long groove session, and by night he plays in a chamber music group. He may be the only non-professional in the group, but it’s kinda hard to question his chops.

as a musician, I sometimes think that Rock Band or Guitar Hero does nothing but trivialize the hard work and dedication it takes to actually play an instrument. Add this to how music is pretty much free on the internet, and trying to be a full time musician becomes an almost impossible feat.
