Is Barack Obama a Robot?

Well, judging from this fast and crazy and fun-to-watch video the answer is: very likely!

But, a couple things:

1. I sort of hope he is a robot and here’s why. Any flesh-and-blood human with real and painful emotions who had to put up with all the mishegas going on in Washington these days would surely not survive. Like — those people are insane. And they mean it. I’d feel much better for Obama and his family if, in fact, he were a robot who could coldly and systematically deal with the irrational and ugly exuberance that passes for oppositional politics these days. As Paul Krugman (okay, yes, but still) noted this week, “cheers erupted” at the Weekly Standard when Chicago was denied the chance to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Is this what it’s come to? If so, let’s get some robotics up in here and now.

2. After you watch this video once, focusing on Obama’s impressively un-human robot smile, watch it again and look at the person nearest him in the footage. If that isn’t a casting call for the next Wed Anderson movie, I will eat my monogrammed luggage. (Note: I do not own monogrammed luggage so no need to hate me.)

Holy shi*. I think I spotted the one genuine smile in there - his eyes are smiling too at that point. Then again, he has to do photo ops with people he probably has intense dislike for every day.
